Carports
There was a time when most carports were built with a direct connection to the home. These days, they are most often seen as separate structures built adjacent to and independent of the home. A carport differs from a garage in that a carport has at least one open side. Garages are enclosed structures, carports are open. Modern building systems allow for a garage to be built on the frame of a carport, increasing the buildings utility.
Garages
Garages, like carports were once built directly into, or onto a home. Today, we often see garages built as stand alone buildings near a home. Prefab type structures, which allow for more flexibility in placement, and function are becoming very popular.
Carport and garage combinations
Carports and garages can be built on the same modular frames. This allows for many combinations. An open carport can be built with a garage, and with storage or workshop space, all within the same frame structure.
